随着对中性粒细胞需求的变化，骨髓中的粒细胞生成来调节细胞输出。反应性粒细胞增多症是由严重的中性粒细胞减少症引起的，但其机制仍有待阐明。PNAS近期发表的文章，通过两种小鼠模型——同基因造血干细胞移植（SCT）与5-氟尿嘧啶诱导的中性粒细胞减少症进行研究，发现SCT和化疗后持续的中性粒细胞减少于肠道微生物群组成的改变相关。
